Recently I discovered a site that had been hacked. The site itself was OK, but the criminals who got in were using some of the site's functions to send spam. Because I monitor sites on a regular basis, keep good backups, and have a good hosting company, we were able to spot the infraction, identify the holes, and shut things down.
Many church websites are run by techy pastors or teens. Many have an interest in web design - and sincerely want to have an active church presence on the web. Unfortunately, many are not security trained - which results in unauthorized programs running on websites or hosts.
Who is watching your church site? Are you staying on top of things? What have you run into?
